Why I'm standing

I love our district and have extensive local government career experience (over 40 years) and want to apply this, because we have an unstable three years ahead (bearing in mind Three Waters, RMA changes and the Future of Local Government Review; and because my professional experience as an urban and transport planner will add value in several areas.

About me

The most formative experience in my career as an urban and transport planner has been the opening up of planning decision-making to local community contributions. I believe strongly that decisions should be made in close touch with needs as expressed by the community, not just at a once-every-three-years election but on an ongoing basis. I also believe that services are most cost-efficient and effective when delivered locally, rather through big organisations.

My priorities
  1. Making the town centre inviting – a challenge astride a state highway, but we can rise to it.
  2. Rural road maintenance, urban footpath retrofit, and sealing gravel roads – neglected areas.
  3. Water conservation in light of drier climate forecasts – this will become increasingly urgent.
