Climate change poses a huge challenge for communities as more frequent extreme weather events require us to rethink how we live and where. Local authorities are at the forefront of efforts to respond, with responsibilities for environmental planning and regulation, as well as civil defence. Many councils have plans to reduce emissions in their area and are working to help their communities adapt to a warming world.

Many councils have plans to reduce emissions in their area and are working to help their communities adapt to a warming world.
Work with ECan to promote better more efficient Public Transport that gets people where they need to get to when they need to get there.
Encourage planting of a lot more trees in the Hornby Ward area to increase our tree canopy, including looking at establishing a Hornby Bush.
Look to establish more appropriate less over engineered cycleways allowing for more interconnected cycleways for safer cycling in more areas.
Secure an affordable mass rapid transit system.
Commit to increasing tree cover to 50% over time beginning with wards that have the lowest tree canopy cover currently.
Increase accessibility to alternative modes of transport.
