Mayor of Far North District

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper.     Create policies and supporting infrastructure that encourages local business to grow and also attract new industries into our district.

  • Support Northland Inc as the lead provider in this space with funding, advocacy and resources.

    Ensure our transport links and infrastructure support tourism and business growth.

  • Prioritise upgrades of Three Waters infrastructure to cope with change in legislation, improve impacts on environment, and allow for growth.

    Support economic projects that will meet the needs of our ageing population (health and aged care based training) and employment.

    Support Covid-19 recovery to strengthen relationships and enable resilience in economy and business with non profit organisation initiatives.

  • Greater input into assisting new ventures into town centres showing our local talent via markets/artisans increase investment for growth.

    Council commitment to training schemes for upskilling youth.

    Infrastructure has to be future proofed for the increase in growth.
