Kahurānaki General Ward
The Hastings District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 15 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). One councillor will be elected from the Kahurānaki ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Consider whether the regulatory function of building consents could be centrally controlled between the local councils.

  • Ensure that communities are properly informed and consulted on changes council makes in their areas.

    Grow our democratic engagement by encouraging participation of people at every opportunity, including encouraging people to run for council.

    Reduce the power of incumbents, so that council attracts more energetic, dedicated and younger candidates to drive our district forward.
