Kahurānaki General Ward
The Hastings District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 15 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). One councillor will be elected from the Kahurānaki ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Protect our fertile plains soils from development, while pushing for denser housing and targeting worse land for development.

    Work with central government to solve the emergency housing issue, that the 800 people living in motels have a warm, safe house to live in.

  • Review the current Development Contributions Policy to encourage infill housing by removing the development contributions.

    Increase the availability of land to provide for affordable housing and commercial land, particularly on the poor quality land.

    Review the current state of council owned residential homes.
