Hauraki District Council

Waihi Ward
The Hauraki District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 13 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Five councillors will be elected from the Waihi ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Remove the use of paid plastic council rubbish bags.

  • Reduce waste to landfill by continuing support of Paeroa's reuse centre and investigating a Waihi reuse centre.

    Ensure drinking water standards are met by upgrading treatment plants.

    Provide recycling bins in townships.

  • I worked on, and fully support council's Waste Management and Minimisation Plan, "No Time To Waste."

    Partner with local organisations to increase pest control in council-managed reserves.

    Support the work our council is doing to provide good-quality potable water.

  • Support community-led initiatives for wellbeing, such as community gardens, markets, rubbish pick-ups, composting, planting and trapping.

    Educate and empower individuals and households to reduce rubbish to landfill as much as possible, enabling a localised circular economy.
