Waihi Ward
The Hauraki District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 13 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Five councillors will be elected from the Waihi ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Expand council owned elderly and social housing stock.

    Amend the District Plan to better allow for a variety of section sizes, and housing options to cater for intergenerational living.

    Implement good urban design criteria to ensure we maintain character and amenity. Co-design with iwi and the local community.

  • Review council housing to ensure they meet the needs of the community, especially the elderly.

    Support plan changes which ensure affordable housing options in Waihi and Whiritoa.

  • Commit to partnering with organisations to build much-needed affordable housing in our district, so that our people are well-housed.

    Build more senior housing which has the flexibility to be turned into good quality affordable or social housing as needs change.
