Hawke's Bay Regional Council

Ahuriri/Napier General Constituency
The Hawke's Bay Regional Council makes decisions about managing resources in the region, such as air, water, soil and the coastline. It also carries out plant and pest control, helps prepare for natural disasters, and is involved in regional transport. The council is made up of 11 councillors. Councillors are elected to represent constituencies (areas in the region). Three councillors will be elected from the Ahuriri/Napier constituency. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Commit to more rubbish bins in and around all of the Hawke's Bay Regional Council beaches, estuaries and rivers. More consistent collection times.

  • Support the Ahuriri Regional Park to become the largest urban wetland in the Southern Hemisphere.

    Stop contamination of the Ahiriri Estuary.

    Put more fish in Hawke's Bay with robust coastal protection policy and a marine sanctuary.

  • Invest in right tree right place scheme for farmers to re-cloak eroding hill slopes with mix of natives and exotics, and 'rewilding' the whenua.

    Invest in Ahuriri regional park to protect, restore and enhance estuary water quality and habitat for bird and other marine species.

    Reclaim council control over possum eradication through proposed change to contractor model, under change to pest management plan.
