Hibiscus and Bays Local Board

East Coast Bays Subdivision
The Hibiscus and Bays Local Board is one of 21 local boards in Auckland. The local board makes a plan for your area and decides on local issues, activities and facilities. It also oversees council services and facilities in your area, including libraries and parks. The local board is made up of eight members. Members are elected to represent different subdivisions within the local board area. Four members will be elected from your area. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. From parks and libraries to museums and art galleries, councils can be a key supporter of sporting, recreational and cultural events that bring communities to life. Community facilities, including sports grounds and town halls, are often owned and run by councils.

  • Establish a clear policy for the local board's Event Partnership Fund so local successful events can benefit from secured, annual funding.

    Create a plan for more of our local parks to be recreation destinations with restoration plans and play facilities established.

    Fund more shade sails for all our play facilities as a short term measure, with longer-term strategic tree planting for natural shade.

  • Support local community events that add vibrancy to our area and bring our communities together from Santa parades to heritage festivals.

    Build on the opportunities provided by our recent upgrade of the Browns Bay library and get more utilisation of the community space created.

    Develop our sporting facilities in a way that encourages more usage and participation, particularly of our young and elderly.

  • Support our youth organisations who provide services such as mentoring, youth development programmes and and facilities.

    Advocate and where possible budget that public and sporting facilities are maintained to ensure they don't get in derelict condition.

    Advocate and support events such as Movie In The Park and We Read Auckland and community organised events.

  • Work to establish a location and funding for a Long Bay community hall.

    Improve sporting facilities across the Bays and identify where investment is needed for under-serviced areas like Long Bay.

    Work with a range of groups to establish a multicultural festival that showcases and celebrates our diverse community.

  • Listen to you about what council should do about recreation and culture. To hear you, I'll hold online and in-person sessions at local venues.

    Represent your views about recreation and culture at council, so that you are heard and included.

    Keep you informed about what council is doing about recreation and culture, so that you feel involved and can hold council accountable.

  • Promote greater awareness of these fantastic council facilities and promote free public transport so they can be used more.

    Work on council by-laws banning vaping. This is a scourge on our young people that needs action now.

    Keep strong liquor licensing laws that we have in place now.

  • Ensure new greenfield developments have the appropriate council provided public facilities, such as pools, libraries and community halls.

    Invest in local sporting facilities and sports teams to help promote a healthy and active lifestyle.

    Optimise existing council assets for multi-purpose which are inclusive of evolving community need.
