Hibiscus and Bays Local Board

East Coast Bays Subdivision
The Hibiscus and Bays Local Board is one of 21 local boards in Auckland. The local board makes a plan for your area and decides on local issues, activities and facilities. It also oversees council services and facilities in your area, including libraries and parks. The local board is made up of eight members. Members are elected to represent different subdivisions within the local board area. Four members will be elected from your area. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Utilities and services

Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

Utilities and services

    The government's Three Waters reform banished. Give the councils direction and funding and control of local assets and not central government.

  • Insist Watercare reinstate yearly household inspections of stormwater and wastewater connections to eliminate illegal connections.

    Extend coverage of dog poop dispensers with disposable bags and bins available to ensure our beaches and parks are free of dog excrement.

    Add more local schools to our school-to-farm recycling trial that collects and composts food scraps and creates productive land to grow food.

  • Advocate for a higher level of investment to increase Watercare's at-capacity network in our growth suburbs like Torbay and Long Bay.

    Increase the service level in our street and town centre cleaning contracts.

    Establish purpose-built dog parks and exercise areas.

  • Oppose relevant legislation for Three Waters due to the proposed governance structure and loss of Auckland Council's majority control.

    Continue to advocate for further resourcing improvements so council's bylaw enforcement team can more effectively undertake their roles.

    Continue my advocacy, now at a national level, for government to provide infringement regimes for bylaws so council can issue fines.

  • Vehemently oppose legislation for Three Waters due to the proposed governance structure and loss of Auckland Council's majority control.

    Ongoing advocacy for for further resourcing improvement so council's bylaw enforcement team can undertake their role more effectively.
