Horowhenua District Council

Kere Kere General Ward
The Horowhenua District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Two councillors will be elected from the Kere Kere ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Work for a successful transition to the Three Waters strategy while ensuring permanent public ownership of all assets.

    Optimise water quality in the Manawatū River and Lake Horowhenua with help and input from key stakeholders.

    Ensure growth in our community is sustainable and recycling bins are added to public areas and supermarkets offer more recyclable products.

  • Promote and develop the Ramsar site at the Manawatū Estuary.

    Develop a waste minimisation and disposal and recycling business, investigating pyrolysis as a partial solution on Horowhenua.

    Check and restore the domestic water distribution infrastructure and liaise with Horowhenua Regional Council to address the drainage challenges around the Manawatū.
