Hurunui District Council

East Ward
The Hurunui District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 10 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Two councillors will be elected from the East ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Work with communities to identify effective realistic adaption options across the district.

    Ensure we continue to maintain and support our civil defence/emergency management preparedness in both Hurunui and wider Canterbury.

  • Encourage the community, in general, to think smarter about how they best get about and conduct their business.

    Provide options to those affected and working with different industries to provide solutions.

    Lead and grow community resilience in the face of increasing emergency event occurrence. Working together strengthens communities.
