Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

Maintain the user-pays system for waste to landfill and introduce an improved recycling service to recover resources. Promote composting.
Ensure there is a reliable town water supply for Dargaville by investing in Waiataua Reservoir improvements.
Ensure we have a responsive animal control service so our community feels safe.
Resist the current format of Three Waters. Keep our water assets.
Recycle, reduce and reuse waste when it is cost-effective.
Vigorously oppose the Dome Valley dump proposal which is environmentally and scientifically indefensible.
Make sure council drinking water is safe and sustainable, stormwater is well managed, and our wastewater is properly treated and disposed of.
