Kaipara District Council

Wairoa General Ward
The Kaipara District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of nine councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Three councillors will be elected from the Wairoa ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Kaipara District Council election.

Why I'm standing

I am concerned at the direction local government is going in particular with regard to "accessible democracy". The focus for council should be on providing cost effective services with the minimum of fuss.

About me

I have been involved in the local community as a volunteer for decades so know many of the issues. I am accessible to all my constituents and will listen. I have management and small business experience so understand what is involved in reaching a positive outcome.

My priorities
  1. Stop Three Waters! My priority as a local survey had over 90% of respondents against this.
  2. Focus on core services and no monuments! People are already doing it tough so let's keep costs down.
  3. Fix the roads! Often promised but limited results from previous councils.
