Kaipara District Council

Wairoa General Ward
The Kaipara District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of nine councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Three councillors will be elected from the Wairoa ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper.   • Promote the reduction of the use of non recyclable plastics.

    Review the complete waste management plan.

    Encourage self-generation power.

  • Stop Three Waters bureaucracy and loss of community infrastructure. Support financial alternatives to improving local water infrastructure.

    Support ratepayer vote on fluoridation. Stop GMO crops and experimentation on every level. Remove 1080 and glyphosate (Roundup) use.

    Support cost-effective waste management and collections within Kaipara district. Support less plastic from manufacturers. Buy local.

  • Make sure council's waste management strategy is implemented in partnership with the communities and providers affected.

    Prioritise environmental protection in council's plans and strategies. Work collaboratively with agencies to achieve results.

    Plan for growth that supports the protection of our beautiful district.

  • Improve water quality by supporting industry to reduce pollution.

    Promote increased use of recreational hunters to deal with pest species before they get further out of control. Reduce reliance on poisons.

    Investigate power generation through incinerating waste rather than opening new landfills.

  • Encourage plastic waste reduction. Foster water conservation.

    Promote plant diversity in agricultural systems to balance food production and biodiversity conservation.

    Encourage use of glassware and slowly ban plastic to reduce need for waste management and recycling plastic.

  • Deliver the waste minimisation strategy delayed in our long term plan to ensure best practice for us including removing plastic refuse bags

    Use an environmental lens on all decision making to ensure protection of our environment and future generations' needs.
