Mayor of Kāpiti Coast

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Kāpiti Coast District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

I think that the relationship between council and its communities is not good. We have had weak and divisive leadership. Council has talked to communities but not listened. So bad decisions have been made. We deserve much better. I have the skills to drive the change we need.

About me

I understand our communities and their diverse needs. I have over 30 years experience as a lawyer specialising in local government and resource management law. I know the differences between best practice and mediocrity or failure. I have experience in governance. Our potential for improvement is all about making better use of collective skills

My priorities
  1. Always remember that council only exists to provide necessary services to its communities
  2. Always remember that we are servants not masters, stewards of other peoples' money.
  3. Leadership is about inclusiveness, helping others succeed and being true to values.
