Mayor of Kāpiti Coast

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Kāpiti Coast District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

I'm standing for mayor because our council should make life better for the whole community and I want us to be proud of how it's run. That means ending the the closed-door meetings, where decisions are made in secret. Because I want to lead a council that listens, and consults with you – before setting ideas in stone. Where our community boards are thriving and we apply financial responsibility to council's decisions.

About me

I bring a skillset that will help ensure real change occurs. This includes significant experience outside of local government, a double degree in law and drama, I've run my own business, worked for a cabinet minister in parliament, and headed an NGO. Being an enabler is in my DNA. It's the 'can' in McCann and is demonstrated by the creation of a housing programme that secured $29.3 million towards vital infrastructure in Otāki.

My priorities
  1. Create a council that is trusted because it listens, works in public and it values your money.
  2. Ensure we are prepared for growth, actively encourage affordable housing and public transport.
  3. Get our Waikanae Library and Paraparaumu Community Centre built and focus on community priorities.
