Mayor of Kāpiti Coast

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Kāpiti Coast District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

Increasingly, I have been getting frustrated with the governance of our region and the continual rate rises. The lack of community consultation and meetings being held behind closed door, have resulted in some very poor decisions being made. Kāpiti faces many challenges but equally we are presented with many opportunities and I want to bring my common-sense problem-solving skills and focus to council to realise these.

About me

I've lived in this bit of paradise for over 40 years. I raised my family here, started an IT business here which I recently sold after 25 years and I've long been committed to giving back to our local community through Kāpiti Rotary. If I am elected, I will bring my inclusive style of leadership to the council. Our council should be focused on making it easier to get things done, rather than creating obstacles.

My priorities
  1. Vote to stop the Gateway project immediately not after we have spent another $70k on consents.
  2. Work with the airport owners to get the best outcome for the community going forward.
  3. Consult with the community instead of consulting with consultants. Local knows best what local needs.
