Utilities and services
Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

Advocate for green waste bins.
Engage with community for alternatives to the current Three Waters legislation.
Increase street cleaning after peak times in the Feilding CBD (Friday/Saturday).
Continue to oppose government's Three Waters reform model. Support Communities 4 Local Democracy's alternative models retaining local ownership and decision making.
Continue our good programme of investment in essential water, wastewater and stormwater. Unlike others, Manawatū District Council has invested well over many years.
Support the progressive environmentally friendly work being developed at new Feilding Resource Recovery Centre. Encourage waste reduction.
