Marlborough Sounds General Ward
The Marlborough District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also passes local regulations and makes decisions about infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage, and about the region’s resources, including water, soil and the coastline. The council is made up of 14 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Three councillors will be elected from the Marlborough Sounds ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. From parks and libraries to museums and art galleries, councils can be a key supporter of sporting, recreational and cultural events that bring communities to life. Community facilities, including sports grounds and town halls, are often owned and run by councils.

    Promote and support all community sports and cultural events.

  • Support investment in infrastructure which will benefit all the regions ratepayers.

  • Maintain pools, halls, libraries and sports fields in a well-maintained state. Keep entry fees as low as possible. Add facilities when able.

    Maintain a range of diverse events and festivals for people of varying ages and cultures to experience and enjoy.

    Aspire to have all council events and fields smoke and vape free for the health of our people.

  • Support more community events and festivals to enrich Marlburians lives and attract visitors to our region.

    Engage with local sporting associations to improve involvement of Marlburians, especially youth, in sports.
