Mayor of Napier

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the city and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Work with Hawke's Bay Tourism, Art Deco Trust and other local tourist providers to rebuild a strong presence in the tourism sector.

    Partner with local businesses to promote initiatives within our CBD and other urban spaces to create vibrancy and employment opportunities.

  • Work with chamber of commerce, business associations, tourism and hospitality to grow direct employment and support sector opportunities.

    Develop programmes with communities, education and trades providers to encourage employment through the Mayoral Taskforce for Jobs.

  • Agitate for and inform on necessity of central government facilitating Reserve Bank credit for essential city infrastructure.
