Mayor of Napier

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the city and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Complete the planning and design of the library/community hub on Station Street, commencing construction in early 2024.

    Decide on the budget, design and location of the aquatic centre redevelopment to enable construction to commence as early as practicable.

    Identify and attract event opportunities in partnership with business associations and private providers to create vibrancy within our city.

  • Support continuation and development of public facilities recognising that such socially important in urban environment

    Urge utmost caution re liquor licensing – not personally tee total but informed nutrient dense nutrition the priority for healthy community.

  • Get strategic core asset investment started, war memorial, aquatic centre, library, aquarium etc, through better decision making.
