The Nelson City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also passes local regulations and makes decisions about infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage, and about the region’s resources, including water, soil and the coastline. The council is made up of 12 councillors and the mayor. This election is for the three councillors elected by all voters in the city. The other councillors will be elected to represent wards (areas in the city.) This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper.     Bring youth and seniors together through programmes, strengthen social cohesion, including rainbow community programme.

    Invest in a wide range of cultural and sporting opportunities, providing Nelsonians with the opportunities and infrastructure to thrive.

    Review the provision of community facilities to ensure that all areas have easy access to core services and deliver its recommendations.

  • Urgently reinvigorate Nelson city and local hubs for reintroduction of events, festivals and attractions post-Covid.

    Review the library build decision based on location and affordability post flooding event.

    Make it easier to do business in Nelson with less bureaucracy and cost to business. Ask the business sector what would be helpful to them.

  • Encourage sporting, musical and cultural events to come to Nelson.

    Help private investors invest in areas that will be positive for Nelson, eg all year round football pitch, arts venue with better acoustics.

    Upgrade the current library building and protect the books kept there.

  • Invest in multi sports artificial turf to bring more sporting events and visitors to Nelson.

    Lighting facilities and more seating capacity for international day/night cricket games at Saxton.

    Sensible liquor licensing rules for responsible businesses to operate efficiently, safely and effectively.

  • Commit to strengthening the partnerships that have made physical activity and the arts vibrant components of a healthy, fun, sustainable and prosperous future.

  • Continue the work of the new arts strategy I have implemented as chair of community and recreation.

    Continue the work and strategy for Nelson's heritage from this terms consultation.

    Build an all weather multi-sports turf. Important for community connection and wellbeing. And visitor spend winter age group tournaments.
