New Plymouth District Council

Kaitake-Ngāmotu General Ward
The New Plymouth District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 14 councillors and the mayor. Six councillors will be elected from the Kaitake-Ngāmotu ward. The other councillors will be elected from other wards or by all voters in the district. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the New Plymouth District Council election.

Why I'm standing

I love where I live and I want to ensure that the decisions of today lead to the best outcomes for our children. I am keen to listen and advocate for the well being of everyone in our community. I commit to doing so with humility and determination

About me

I bring national experience in policy development as senior leader at NZQA, and chair of the education minister appointed task force to improve governance and management of NZ schools. I have demonstrable leadership skills as former principal of three secondary schools and former president of the Secondary Principals Association of NZ. I am active in the community as a board member of the Toi foundation and Teach First NZ.

My priorities
  1. Create a vibrant city centre – this includes housing, transport and of course businesses.
  2. Support environmentally sustainable economic development, including public transport.
  3. Better support those who are disadvantaged in our community.
