New Plymouth District Council

New Plymouth District At Large
The New Plymouth District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 14 councillors and the mayor. This election is for the five councillors elected by all voters in the city. The other councillors will be elected to represent wards (areas in the city). This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the New Plymouth District Council election.

  • Maintain a high standard in water quality and the infrastructure to support that.

Support addressing the immediate sewage concerns in Waitara, the water shortage in Okato and so much more.

Research better ways of pest control to avoid further use of 1080.

  • Water quality and preservation. Admittedly, our drinking water should beat the highest standard achievable, required.

Biodiversity and pest control. Controlled Noxious plant life, Plans and disposed transportation. Introduce more rodent traps.

Waste minimisation and management. Influence; promote and implement measures to manage and minimise waste.

  • Regenerate our biodiversity by growing, nurturing and investing in our green spaces.

Maintain water quality by ensuring that overflows of sewerage and wastewater systems are carefully monitored and minimised.

  • Redirect spending from luxury projects like the sports hub towards basic human rights like running water in Okato.

Amplify additional support with the community, iwi, hapū, landowners and Taranaki Mounga Project for a predator free Taranaki reserve.

  • Actively oppose the Three Waters asset grab.

Commit to the upgrade and continued maintenance of existing drinking water systems.

    Continue to improve recycling capabilities

  • Cease trucking waste to other areas. Develop a greater range end of life disposal processes in Taranaki, ie food waste, and plastic waste processes.

Encourage/support/offer – water harvesting assistance to existing and new private properties in format similar to insulation schemes.

Private water harvesting reduces burden on public works and increases resilience in time of civil emergency – lack of space for detail here.
