New Plymouth District At Large
The New Plymouth District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 14 councillors and the mayor. This election is for the five councillors elected by all voters in the city. The other councillors will be elected to represent wards (areas in the city). This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper.     Formulate a plan with CBD based businesses to create retail experiences, eg a six weekly themed shopping day/night.

    Train people on the benefit in digital fluency to work as the content creators for local business either by employment or contracting.

  • Implement Tapuwae Roa and Taranaki 2050 initiatives to diversify our economy away from heavy reliance on oil and gas and agriculture.

    Attract talented people by developing New Plymouth as a Sustainable Lifestyle Capital and promoting it as a great place to work and live.

    Implement local and social procurement policies; support local businesses, improve conditions and training/internship opportunities for workers.

  • Business is the life blood of any community. We must be very careful of overloading business with fees and compliance.

    Clean up the city's streets and amenities to keep up an attractive and pleasing site to tourists.

    Continue to encourage new business into the area.

  • Work alongside businesses to ensure ample supports for longterm sustainability with everything from accessibility, to commercial rates.

    Support larger local events to boost the districts local economy and advance to a NZ must-see destination.

    Work towards having ample opportunities for our youth so they do not feel they have to leave the district to be able to pursue their careers.

  • Develop a locally owned public works company that works with local New Plymouth District Council contractor service providers to train tradespeople for Taranaki.

    Roading. Fix Carrington/Huatoki. Implement preventative roading deterioration practices and reinstate more roading crews using better material.

    Grant to Waitara, Urenui, Oakura, Omata, and Inglewood. More budget and autonomy in developing their own town plans as future needs dictate.

  • Consult with commercial and industrial business to ensure the rates they pay are equitable via the imminent rate review process.

    Continue to fund support promote and kept accountable Venture Taranaki (council-controlled organisation) as Taranaki's preeminent regional development agency.

    Lead and remain focused on providing top-class local Three Waters infrastructure that remains locally owned and responsive.

  • Promote sustainable Taranaki policies attracting migration and visitors to the district. Support Venture Taranaki programs.

    Ensure council policies allow for the entrepreneurial activities of new and established businesses. Entry barriers must be low.

    Promote and support our regional technical training organisations.

  • Commit to bringing back pride from our local business, improve the CBD so it is not so tired. Last six years it has gone backwards.

    Commit to completing the water, sewage and wastewater improvement to our whole district. Make sure everyone is catered for not just the city.

    Commit to buying local and look for ways that our local business can face competition from overseas and outside our electorate. Save CO2.

    Youth Employment: utilise, involve Government services, NGOs, communities service groups/clubs.

  • Support stronger networks, support systems and incentives for social enterprises, innovation and entrepreneurship in general.

    Support tertiary/vocational institutes to ensure current and future needs of the workforce are understood and well served.
