Ōmokoroa Community Board

The Ōmokoroa Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Western Bay of Plenty District Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of six members: four members elected by voters, and two councillors from the Western Bay of Plenty District Council.  This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Local councils are responsible for land use planning under the Resource Management Act, which affects where and how new houses are constructed, as well as the design of cities and towns. In some areas, councils also provide housing to those who need it most.

  • Ensure that council fully understands residents' perspectives on any proposed developments within the Ōmokoroa area.

    Communicate council housing policies to families and young people in the area and ensure that they have an opportunity to be heard.

  • Build more shelters for homeless people and provide supports within those shelters.

    Restructure the rates schedule so that its not based on land size.

  • Contribute to planning processes that balance the impending growth on the peninsula with the existing character and feel of older streets.

    Ensure that the voices of the community are heard and acted upon in all council planning processes.

    Ensure that our community is responsive to changing demographics as we become more a town of varied ages and ambitions.
