Why I'm standing

I would relish the opportunity to use my skills and experience to help restore the public's confidence in the Otago Regional Council. The public perception is that the council is broken and that the Minister has been on the verge of sacking the elected representatives and replacing them with commissioners. It is hard to tell if the current elected members are part of the problem or the solution but something needs to change.

About me

I have an extensive background in local government in Central Otago. I am a member of the Institute of Directors and I currently hold directorships on several primary industry-focused Boards. I am an experienced sport administrator and I currently Chair the Board of Bowls New Zealand. More recently I have just finished a five year ministerial appointment on the Conservation Authority where we collectively advised both the Minister and Director General of Conservation.

My priorities
  1. Restoring the public's confidence in the council which I believe has been lost.
  2. Expanding the ECO Fund to allow community groups to continue their efforts to restore biodiversity.
  3. Adopting freshwater policies that are based on sound scientific data.
