Porirua City Council

Onepoto General Ward
The Porirua City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 10 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the city). Five councillors will be elected from the Onepoto ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Porirua City Council election.

Why I'm standing

I believe in a city that thrives for everyone. Porirua is a kaleidoscope city: our strength comes from the weaving of cultures and languages from our tāngata whenua, to the pacific ring, and beyond. We have enormous challenges here, including reducing how much waste ends up in our landfills, real action on homelessness and overcrowding, and how the council is accountable to you. I believe our communities are the key to our city's solutions.

About me

It's been an honour to serve the city I live in, representing the communities of the Western Ward. There are successes over the last three years like boosting riparian planting for Anahera, underwriting the Wineera-Onepoto pathway for Joel and Luke, improving safety in the city and beach for Elly, Kai and Lindsay, and having a Living Wage for all who work for Porirua City, for people like Salota.

My priorities
  1. Accountable decision making that reflects the community.
  2. Control our own economic destiny, with a vibrant environment whose wellbeing is connected to us.
  3. Housing fit for all, with active and sustainable transport that is affordable for everyone.
