Mayor of Queenstown-Lakes District

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Queenstown-Lakes District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

Queenstown Lakes is a place where my children would want to return to live, work and raise their children. I want to see that the cost of housing and the cost of living is attainable. I envision a community that is welcoming, and provides a healthy approach to living, working and playing. A district where the needs of visitors and residents are balanced, where the needs of all aspects of the community are considered.

About me

I am a current Queenstown Lakes District Council Councillor, a Destination Queenstown board member, a trustee of Startup Queenstown Lakes. A Junior rugby coach for the last eight years. I have been a member of the Frankton community association for six years and chair for four. I am a father of two boys that attend local schools. I have a long and consistent history of community volunteering, and I have the community first and foremost in my decision-making.

My priorities
  1. Tackling major Issues. Build a high level of strategic focus in the council.
  2. A district to become a place where its employment is as attractive as its natural environment.
  3. Deliver a plan for infrastructure that meets the needs of locals and visitors.
