Mayor of Queenstown-Lakes District

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Queenstown-Lakes District Council mayoral election.

  • Supporting the biking community is a top priority – better connectivity, safer cycleways, and more world class cycle trails!

Bringing bike festivals and events to town – and developing a strategy with our RTOs to attract more biking tourism to town.

Better using our waterways for sport and travel. I'm in an "electric marina" project group, so we can have electric boats on our lakes soon.

  • Need more open and recreational spaces. The pillars of every community are its facilities and festivals that encourage community vibrancy.

Regulatory Services at Queenstown-Lakes District Council have done a good job in educating businesses. The role must continue as educators to encourage compliance.

Invest in sporting facilities as these will keep our young people occupied in a positive way. The region needs more professional sports.

  • I support Project Manawa and the partnership to deliver a mixed model of ownership/lease to leverage the best outcomes for the residents.

Deliver a ten-year plan that focuses on arts, cultural and sporting facilities district-wide.

Create an events office that actively pursues events for the district rather than passively waiting for enquires.

  • Increase and streamline community funding. Enable community groups to secure funding without going through annual and long-term planning.

Maintain community and recreation infrastructure as a priority. Putting the community and environment, not chasing growth, at the centre.

Fast-track council office, meeting, and emergency management facilities in Frankton and Wānaka. Review plans to demolish Memorial Centre.

  • Community events like festivals: love them, we need more.

Liquor licensing: increase the availability of alcohol retailers. Everyone enjoys a beer after work, who doesn't?

Sporting facilities: sporting facilities should be made available for all.
