The Rotorua District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 10 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Six councillors will be elected from the Te Ipu Wai Auraki General ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Work with a wide range of businesses to ensure we have a sustainable economy that is not so dependent on tourism.

    Advocate and work with those in the employability space to better support people to get into work. Particularly rangatahi.

  • Plan idea with local businesses to encourage foot traffic and attract more business to the central city.

    Encourage business and youth work placements with matching youth to work places for experience.

    Provide a safe city for all the community and bring back tourists to the city.

  • Return motels to the provision of visitor accommodation to ensure capacity for hosting events, domestic and international travellers.

    Provide incentives and remove barriers to attract businesses to establish operations and provide employment in Rotorua.

    Partner with tourism leaders to rebuild the Industry, restore visitor confidence and reverse covid job losses. Market new offerings/events.

  • Lets get the heart of Rotorua beating again by working together with local businesses, chambers of commerce and the likes to set actions.

    Completion of all outstanding projects throughout Rotorua so we are able to get back to presenting world class tourism.

  • Revitalise the CBD! Inner city development that supports alternative shopping hours for tourists and locals.

    Be Rotorua Proud to attract new businesses, innovation, investment and events to town.

    Create internships with local schools for rangatahi to learn more about council and the council-controlled organisations.

  • Work with local businesses to identify and remove barriers hindering economic growth – such as removing the Greenlane through the CBD.

    Work with schools and post-school providers to prepare youth with the practical and budgeting skills needed to survive in the workforce.

    Refresh tourism in Rotorua. Removing barriers to operating efficiently.

  • Commit council to enabling new industrial and commercial estates for greenfield development.

    Fund and support the destination management plan in advancing Rotorua to be the tourism jewel it once was and should be.

    Revitalise the CBD. We have talked about it for long enough. We must agree on a way forward with Ngati Whakaue and then implement the plan.

  • Consult with Rotorua on six key economic areas for growth – then set targets for our economic development agency to meet on growth.

    Work with Tarawera mana whenua to create a Great Walk around the Lake to encourage more eco-tourism to Rotorua.

    Build enabling infrastructure to end the need for emergency housing to give businesses confidence to invest.
