Malvern Ward
The Selwyn District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 10 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Two councillors will be elected from the Malvern ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Fix potholes properly, first time around.

    Upgrade the road surface and width of Hoskyns Road, north from Rolleston, and install street lighting.

    Provide a timetable of public transport from Darfield to Christchurch to serve the district's identified needs.

  • Propose that NZ Rail and Environment Canterbury seriously investigate using the current railway system to get heavy goods vehicles off roads.

    Propose that NZ Rail and Environment Canterbury offer commuter train services from satellite townships.

    Propose shingled roads in rural towns be tar sealed, eg Struie Rd, Hector St and have a sustainable plan to fix pot holes on main rural roads.

  • Work with roading department to ensure expectation of roading is completed to a satisfactory standard.

    Ensure that ratepayers voices are heard for the upgrades needed in their communities.

    Consult the Malvern community on the total budget of the walking and cycling tracks in the Long Term Plan.

    Allocate more funding towards flooding prevention, 100km/h aquaplaning due to the lack of a soak pit is a recipe for disaster.

    Increase campaigns about following distances, gap selection and driving to the conditions, frequent and earlier use of grit trucks in winter.
