Malvern Ward
The Selwyn District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 10 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Two councillors will be elected from the Malvern ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Supply unchlorinated water, avoiding the use of that chemical, and treat contaminated supplies on an as-needed basis.

    Encourage all-round biodiversity and natural pest control.

  • Increase native planting areas to support our environment.

    Support community initiatives to continue pest control.

    Work with local authorities to increase our river and stream health.

  • Work with central government to establish sustainable, cost effective infrastructure that provides long term safe drinking water for Malvern.

    Establish a plan to address the inadequacies for protecting native biodiversity like in the High Country where habitat loss is accelerating.

  • Create native riparian planting zones to decrease erosion and run-off while improving water quality, and creating native wildlife habitats.

    Actively support local community groups to humanely trap stoats, possums and rats.

    Offer council land for community garden/composting projects to keep organics from landfills and increase residents health, self sufficiency.
