Selwyn District Council

Rolleston Ward
The Selwyn District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 10 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Three councillors will be elected from the Rolleston ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Selwyn District Council election.

Why I'm standing

We live in an amazing district, however I worry that the decisions we make will not allow future generations to enjoy the healthy and safe environment that they deserve. I will always challenge us to do better and make truly future-focussed decisions. We shouldn't be afraid to count the real cost of long-held promises, and reprioritise accordingly. I also strongly believe that we need to communicate better with locals about council's work, online and in-person.

About me

I've spent the last three years of council on an intensive but fulfilling learning curve, which stands me in good stead for the big decisions and changes headed our way. Selwyn has been my family's home for 10 years now, both rurally and in Rolleston. I have SME, public sector and voluntary experience, both in NZ and overseas. I'm studying postgrad at Lincoln to deepen my understanding, and am not afraid to explain my perspectives.

My priorities
  1. Enabling better public and active transport options, to reduce carbon emissions and improve health.
  2. Incentivise medium density builds that meet accessibility, energy and water conservation guidelines.
  3. Openly discuss what climate change mitigation and adaptation means for individuals and communities.
