Mayor of South Wairarapa

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the South Wairarapa District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

Local government is at a watershed, the power and control model of the past will not work to solve our current problems. I am optimistic that a collaborative and partnership model will truly enable our community and deliver better solutions to address the challenges we face. I can bring that change in culture. Along with a new respect for diversity and inclusivity council can make positive change.

About me

I have been involved in the issues of Council from the sidelines. I have attended meetings, read papers and commented on issues for many years. I will therefore be effective from day one. My home, family and work has been in the South Wairarapa for 22 years. I love it here. As GM for a financial services company and later a change consultant I know organisations, people and partnerships.

My priorities
  1. Address the reforms ahead by building knowledge, due consideration, analysis, good communication.
  2. Review the budget of Council and ensure priorities are correct and projects are value for money.
  3. Build good working relationships across the community, the region, the sector and within council.
