Tasman District Council

Richmond Ward
The Tasman District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also passes local regulations and makes decisions about infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage, and about the region’s resources, including water, soil and the coastline. The council is made up of 13 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Four councillors will be elected from the Richmond ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Tasman District Council election.

Why I'm standing

I am passionate about a robust democracy in local body politics and that every person has their voice heard. I want to see a strategic vision for Richmond as it grows so that all residents can enjoy their environment. I have a vision for a cohesive strategic big picture, and I also have an eye for detail in legislation. I see firsthand how the housing shortage impacts on single people and would implement positive changes.

About me

I have lived in this community for many years and want to listen and act in a way that improves Richmond. I have a range of management and business experience. I understand the extra pressures on businesses since COVID-19 working in the hospitality sector. Running a campground and motels means that you have a working knowledge of infrastructure on a smaller scale.

My priorities
  1. Reduce council debt ratios. We have one of the highest debt ratios of any NZ council.
  2. Three Waters assets are paid by ratepayers and accountability is through the council. Not centralised.
  3. Roading infrastructure. Roads need to be maintained to a better standard. One issue causes gridlock.
