Taumarunui-Ōhura Community Board

The Taumarunui-Ōhura Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Ruapehu District Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of six members: five members elected by voters, and one councillor from the Ruapehu District Council.  This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. From parks and libraries to museums and art galleries, councils can be a key supporter of sporting, recreational and cultural events that bring communities to life. Community facilities, including sports grounds and town halls, are often owned and run by councils.

    Increase play equipment and include shade sails and water at each park for families in the summer months.

    Support local artists and art groups to create and display their work. Increase the number of artists that are given council contracts.

  • Progress is being done on renovation of our grandstand, employment of recreational services, upgrade to the indoor pool at the high school.

    Spend more on Christmas festivities in decorations of the town.

    Great that community boards will have more autonomy and responsibility for liquor licensing, festivals etc.

    Build common community gardens with community groups in local parks where people can share produce and skills.
