Taumarunui-Ōhura Community Board

The Taumarunui-Ōhura Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Ruapehu District Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of six members: five members elected by voters, and one councillor from the Ruapehu District Council.  This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Utilities and services

Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

  • Encourage and fund a more responsive animal control department.

    Increased testing or audits of water treatment plants for drinking water. Too often does our water taste awful. Publish the results.

    Support, educate and encourage residents to become water resilient before summer causes droughts. Aid locals in water storage for gardens.

  • To remove power poverty in our region by empowering power companies who care about our people.

    Reduce the costs of all council bags to ensure that all families dispose of their rubbish correctly and no unsafe burning of rubbish.

    To create a safe space in our communities for families to go to with their dogs.

  • Provide equal services to rural areas who are charged and where rubbish collection, waste management are confined to urban areas only.

    Mandatory that dogs be on a leash in public arena for their safety and that of the neighbourhood.

    Against government concept to remove council assets and control water.

  • Subsidise rubbish services for those on a fixed income to reduce waste dumping and burning.
