Taumarunui-Ōhura Community Board

The Taumarunui-Ōhura Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Ruapehu District Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of six members: five members elected by voters, and one councillor from the Ruapehu District Council.  This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Taumarunui-Ōhura Community Board election.

Helping communities get from A to B is a key responsibility of local government, from making sure the buses run on time to providing car parking and walking and cycling paths. Whether public transport is the responsibility of the regional or local council depends on where you are in the country. Local councils also own 87% of New Zealand’s roads.

  • Work with bus companies to have a regular route of the town areas that run six times daily.

    To make sure that we have the use of walkways and pathways available and accessible for mobility scooters, wheel chairs and family safe.

  • Faster identification and repair of potholes. Creating an available map or list and public timeline for fix estimates.

    Ensure ramps on and off curbs are maintained and available for bikes, scooters and wheelchairs.

    Additional recharging stations for electric vehicles.

  • Work with central government to bring passenger services through Taumarunui to service our community.

    Institute a program of road maintenance and works.

    Install more e-charge stations to future-proof our infrastructure for electric vehicles.

  • Support wholeheartedly that trains stop at Taumarunui including tourist trains for Forgotten World, art galleries and souvenir store.

    Refurbish Taumarunui Railway Station so that tourists are aware there is a souvenir store inside and art gallery across the road.
