Waikato Regional Council

Waikato General Constituency
The Waikato Regional Council makes decisions about managing resources in the region, such as air, water, soil and the coastline. It also carries out plant and pest control, helps prepare for natural disasters, and is involved in regional transport. The council is made up of 14 councillors. Councillors are elected to represent constituencies (areas in the region). Two councillors will be elected from the Waikato constituency. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Review council policies to ensure industry can locate within the region and that such policies do not clash with local council's initiatives.

    Work with Hamilton City and District Councils rather than taking divergent pathways with respect to economic development.

    Consider more involvement with Waikato Tourism and a more collegial approach with other councils.

  • Work with farmers to support both farm compliance by giving youth opportunities to riparian plant and plant for carbon sequestration.

    Have Waikato Regional Council working with business and industries to off set carbon and or become carbon neutral or better.
