Waikouaiti Coast Community Board

The Waikouaiti Coast Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Dunedin City Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of six members. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Utilities and services

Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

    Help develop local plans for managing resources like beach access and recreational areas.

    Help provide resources to support the Truby King Reserve at Seacliff.

  • Monitor activities at the Waikouaiti Transfer Station and lobby council for any perceived improvements.

    Make submissions via council planning process regarding Three Waters.

  • Advocate for council to establish rural recycling collection points and rubbish collection. Support reduce, reuse and recycle.

    Do everything in our power to stop a situation like the lead water incident from happening again. Demand better monitoring and testing.

    Improve response times for service and infrastructure issues reported by the community. Ensure contractors are complying contractually.
