Waikouaiti Coast Community Board

The Waikouaiti Coast Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Dunedin City Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of six members. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Whether public transport is the responsibility of the regional or local council depends on where you are in the country. Local councils also own 87% of New Zealand’s roads.

  • Establish better public transport options for the Waikouaiti Coast area communities. Better bus services and other options.

    Help develop a priority plan to maintaining and improving local roads with consideration for cyclists and walkers.

    Make clear to planners how vulnerable this area is to road outages and transport failure and develop plans to help avoid these problems.

  • Build support within the community for an on-demand bus service much like what Timaru has. Push for this model of service to Council.

    Advocate for safer and better maintained roads from Waka Kotahi (NZTA) and DCC. Push for more paved roading and enable better engagement.

  • Lobby for further improvement of bus services to the board area.

    Support groups working to improve opportunities for walking and cycling.
