The Waimakariri District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 10 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Four councillors will be elected from the Rangiora-Ashley ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Increase opportunities for our many community groups to collaborate on joint events where it makes sense.

    Encourage a culture where we are all responsible for the choices we make in order to have a thriving community in a healthy environment.

  • Build an extension to our Rangiora Library, and include a museum.

    Support all sporting facilities to make sure that they can survive and thrive for the well-being of all our community.

    Support Christmas parades and celebrate our shopping experiences for the festive season.

  • Support valued facilities and events that encourage learning, fitness and cultural awareness, but not at the expense of core services.

  • Have a programme of events that engages and brings people together with a sense of belonging, encourage neighbours to know their neighbours.

    Invest in community vans and improve promotional town signage areas to help support community, club and school groups.

    Continue to maintain and develop community sports, recreation, cultural and education facilities to improve people's well-being.

  • Look for ways to bring people together during our pandemic, social division and new reality.

    Support maintenance of current facilities and services but keeping aware of any gaps in services for our local people.

    Look to see if there are any new or existing events that can be created or adjusted to attract greater participation.

  • Create an annual calendar around events in "Destination Waimakariri" to drive people into the district on a weekly basis.

    Continue to support council approach to invest in parks, libraries and pools.

    Continue to look for private or commercial investment in facilities for our younger community members as this part of the community grows.

  • Replace the Southbrook Park facility with something more practicable and usable.

    Working with private investors continue to reinvigorate the red zones.

    Continue to support events such as the Christmas parades, Anzac, and many others.
