The Waimakariri District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 10 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Four councillors will be elected from the Rangiora-Ashley ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Commit to supporting investment in council infrastructure that provides quality or essential services to the public of Waimakariri.

  • Develop a "Destination Waimakariri" concept to bring Christchurch people to the district on a regular basis.

    Ensure commercial development is designed to bring the right businesses to the district to encourage local employment.

  • Support better understanding of local business dealings with council by asking for information on interactions.

    Support council's existing infrastructure plan and spending.

    Support appropriate local suppliers for work in the area.

  • Encourage and facilitate more fairs and events within the district.

    Invest or partner to establish a local recycling facility, for recycling that is not currently able to be recycled regionally.

    Establish youth internships in the council.

  • Keep up with investment in Enterprise North Canterbury and the towns promotion associations.

    Work with business that are looking at investing in our district to identify suitable areas for industrial or retail development.

    Continue to invest in the vitalisation and beautification of our civic facilities and our town centres.

  • Encourage economic development particularly with an investor partner, saving ratepayers. Chair of promotions, business, town centres.

    Encourage unique retail businesses to our town. Close association with Enterprise North Canterbury.

    Encourage council business to be placed with local business owners where applicable.

  • Encourage the use of local businesses as much as possible.

    Create an innovation hub where the experienced and youth come together to innovate, experiment and find solutions.

    Involve different parts of the community to work and grow existing initiatives such as the RPA Do Good Rangiora programme.

    Work with community interest groups to bring a programme of events and activities that achieves financial benefits.
