The Waimakariri District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 10 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). Four councillors will be elected from the Rangiora-Ashley ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Commit to supporting equal representation and voting rights for all no matter what race, colour or creed.

    Commit to condemnation and opposition of any policy that puts one race ahead of any other, in any way.

  • Establish weekly drop in sessions around the district for residents to have access to elected members.

    Work to encourage Māori to stand for election in office in our district.

    Work to increase voter turn out and show that every vote matters.

  • Oppose Three Waters reform bill, which is unjust and not democratic. Protecting our ratepayers rights and assets which could be stolen.

    Retain our talented staff with good relationships with councillors.

    Listen to the community and deliver a great level of service.

  • Value and give full consideration to all public feed back on issues and subjects presented by our residents.

    Ensure our brilliant staff feel valued and encouraged to stay with our council.

    Continue the annual public survey on councils services and infrastructure, maintain our AA rating as a council.

  • Support the chief executive to lead, manage, develop and reward council staff to achieve the council's programmes, projects and goals.

    Support local governance with strong leadership, accountability, diversity, and community consultation and support.

    I will be only a phone call away, an active participant in the community, there to represent and advocate your issues and concerns.

  • Assess Waimakariri District Council's engagement with key residents and other audiences to gauge how well Waimakariri District Council is communicating and serving them.

    Support policies behind our treaty: Te Tiriti o Waitangi and mana whenua relationships.

  • Continue to encourage diversity of opinion into the engagement process that council adopts on all key issues.

    Continue to address the structure of council in terms of both costs and efficiencies, ie outsourcing v in-house.

  • Create a forum for the local community to meet regularly to provide ideas and feedback to the council.

    Continue to work with Te Ngāi Tūāhuriri Rūnanga, particularly in joint partnerships that will mitigate climate change.

    Encourage innovation at the council and have competitive salaries for staff to attract and retain competency.
