Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board

Central Subdivision
The Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Christchurch City Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of nine members: six members elected by voters, including two members from your area, and three councillors from the Christchurch City council. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Helping communities get from A to B is a key responsibility of local government, from making sure the buses run on time to providing car parking and walking and cycling paths. Whether public transport is the responsibility of the regional or local council depends on where you are in the country. Local councils also own 87% of New Zealand’s roads.

Helping communities get from A to B is a key responsibility of local government, from making sure the buses run on time to providing car parking and walking and cycling paths. Whether public transport is the responsibility of the regional or local council depends on where you are in the country. Local councils also own 87% of New Zealand’s roads.

  • Work with ECan to give Christchurch City Council more say over public transport routes and look at all new types of transport for the city.

    Work on storage and charging spaces for electric bikes and scooters within the CBD.

  • Investigate establishment of park and ride facilities to ease congestion.

    Trial a city area. Turn off 'lights' cut speed to 30k or less, support motorists, bikers and pedestrians toward intuitive road use.

    Finish the Linwood section of the cycleway.

  • Invest in rapid mass transport to create a functional public transport network for Christchurch.

    Advocate for investing in safety measures to make residential streets and intersections safe for all users.

    Advocating for the free shuttle for CBD as we use to have earlier a "yellow bus."

  • Create streets and a culture where cars, bikes, pedestrians, and micro-vehicles can travel in harmony with one another.
