The Waipapa Papanui-Innes-Central Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Christchurch City Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of nine members: six members elected by voters, including two members from your area, and three councillors from the Christchurch City council. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. From parks and libraries to museums and art galleries, councils can be a key supporter of sporting, recreational and cultural events that bring communities to life. Community facilities, including sports grounds and town halls, are often owned and run by councils.

  • Weekly maintenance of parks and other amenities for safety and security. There need to be more rangers to ensure our parks are safe places.

    Oversight by OSH of any proposed community events. Make them a focus for biodegradable, clean good, sustainable, healthy foods. Zero waste.

    Restrict Liquor licensing and off licences in terms of open hours and advertising. Penalise for damage to adjacent streets, amenities.

  • Utilise and develop community resources people have and want in their neighbourhoods. Meeting places, parks, pools, activities and events.

    Reduce the effects of alcohol on communities by reducing off-licence venues and the hours they are open.

    Provide for recreation within communities through the provision of green space and community venues.

  • Review our Local Alcohol Policies to make sure communities' interests are being best served in relation to licensing approval.

    More funding for the upkeep and improvement of our parks and their facilities including for projects that improve their appearance.

    Investigate improvements into our libraries and service centres and ways in which they can better serve our community

  • Review the community halls to ensure they are fit for today's requirements. Look to see how we can we get more use out of them.

    Limit the number of liquor licenses permitted for a defined area. Alcohol is a problem and we do not need one on every corner.

  • Introduce free swimming lessons and pool access for kids under 16.

    Support festivals and events that bring our community together and promote multiculturalism.

    Prevent liquor stores vaping stores from being established near school areas, and low socio-economic places in the communities.
