Wānaka-Upper Clutha Community Board

The Wānaka-Upper Clutha Community Board represents your local community and advocates to Queenstown-Lakes District Council about local issues, including public transport and facilities such as libraries and parks. The board is made up of four members. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Provide support to the local community of Upper Clutha to allow time and support to recover from the pandemic.

    Work with our youth to encourage them to speak up on how they see their future and what we can provide to support them in their development.

    Celebrate diversity, support various groups within community doing great things, eg Food for Love, Tekakano Trust, and Kahu Youth, to grow.

  • Diversify Wānaka's economy further by leveraging remote workers and creating a science focused environmental education cluster.

    Investigate the establishment of an independent economic development agency to sit outside of QLDC.

    Create a marketing campaign to attract workers specifically to Wānaka to help address the current labour shortage.

  • Support business with cost effective services, whilst ensuring that they cover the cost of the use of public space where applicable.

    Support business through the provision of fit for purpose infrastructure in a timely manner.

    Support the tourism industry and the main employment provider, whilst seeking to support diversification of the local economy.

  • Support initiatives for appropriate new economic activities.

    Identify infrastructure enhancements that would attract diversified economic activity.

    Plan for appropriate development of the Wānaka Airport which is an important economic and strategic asset for the Wānaka-Upper Clutha Ward.
