Wellington City Council

Paekawakawa/Southern General Ward
The Wellington City Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 15 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the city). Two councillors will be elected from the Paekawakawa/Southern ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Wellington City Council election.

Why I'm standing

I care deeply about the people who call this place home. Wellington has moved down the ranks on the Economist Intelligence Unit Index of most liveable cities – we were #4 but have tumbled to #50. I'm here to get us back on track. I want to make Wellington the best city to live and do business in.

About me

Born and bred in Wellington - a ship captain by trade, I'm no stranger to hard work. When I'm not on the water, I manage our family business, Penthouse Cinema. If you want a hardworking, straight-talking, engaged councillor who is committed to change, vote for Iain MacLeod.

My priorities
  1. Making it quick and easy to get around, including speeding up traffic from Ngauranga to the airport.
  2. Focusing on efficient and consistent provision of core council services.
  3. Giving people free access to parks and fields and minimising wasteful council spending.
